I like this style stock and would get it again for a target or precision rimfire rifle. The Boyds Pro Varmint Gun Stock was designed to meet the requests of shooters who were looking for an affordable tactical design for their smaller calibre rifles. It's a 22 so it wouldn't have bothered me and it would have cost less. Hind sight I should have just got the normal LOP and lived with it. I paid extra for a longer LOP but that proved a bit problematic because my scope wouldn't slide back as much as I'd like so it's marginally ok. I chose their basic black finish and I like it. The second was a pro varmint for my marlin xt-22 tube fed and it's ok. I also don't like the finish and the butt plate is glued to the end so you're stuck with it. If you have an older Rossi 92 they might fit but definitely do not fit the current production. They are the only affordable option so you sort of have to accept that or pay the price for true custom stock.įirst was a walnut stock for my new production (made in Brazil) Rossi 92 357 mag and the stocks needed serious amount to modification and even then I chose to put the original back on. That's been years ago, so maybe that particular CS troll is gone. I was polite about it because I would never have expected them to balk at an exchange, but they were firm and very short about it. I asked to exchange it and was told "no." They wouldn't even consider looking at a photo to see that they made a mistake. This made the left side of the action look like it had receding gums and left an unfinished part of the action showing. The left side should have been cut higher to accommodate the higher left side of the action, but it was cut low like the right side, where the ejection port/opening is. I had an unfinished walnut sock from them for a 98 Mauser which had the sides cut identically on both sides. They worked OK for me when I put a lot of hours into them, but I wouldn't put that kind of work into one now because at the price they should be completely functional out of the box and I just don't trust them to be that. May sound harsh, but that has been my experience. I did recently just to see if the site improved, but I left quickly and without seeing anything at all appealing. I also thinks their website is one of the worst Ive tried to use, so I don't bother looking any more. I don't see them being worth what they're asking now - by any means. I found them to be a useful "blank with a little inletting" for a working rifle back when they were under a hundred bucks. I also relieved barrel channels rather generously, but did not leave a huge gap along the barrel - but not a dollar's thickness either.
#Boyds cayote stock pro plus
I filled the entire action mortise (with clearance where required, plus 3" of of the barrel, under the chamber. I slimmed a lot of wood off the outsides to get a decent feeling and looking stock, plus I removed a lot of weight from under the recoil pad by boring large holes deep into the butt stock.ģ) I used a LOT of Acraglass Gel when bedding them and did NOT bed just the action-screw points on the action. What was too tight, I removed, what was too loose, I "'glassed."Ģ) I removed a LOT of material, as they seemed very bulky, clubby and heavy to me - and I'm talking sporter-weights, not target. I have had several and managed to avoid such problems because of how I modified them.ġ) Not to be dismissed is the fact that you could once buy "UNFINISHED" stocks for under $100, at which point they were worth it in that they save me the bulk of gross inletting. Hoping a save a lil on expensive shipping by buying two at once.ĭo you guys have any? What has been your experiences? My hope is both of these are main stays in the line. For this one I really like there "Coyote" laminate. This gun has beautiful bluing on par with Weatherbys. Im going with the light weight thumbhole stock. Second stock is for my Savage A22 Magnum. The factory stock is thin flexible and long for heavy cloths. So, I now have the need for another stock and I "want" a second unit. A couple days few hours a day found what lied beneath and made this stock one of my favorites. But was "thick" and contoured poorly FOR ME HANDS. The stock fit perfectly and was 100% functional. But knowing its made as there least expensive "budget" stock corners had to be cut. I initially did not like the feel of the stock. I made a thread and its on here somewhere. I had said I bought a Spike Camp stock mast spring. I was waiting for my Physical Therapist and he arrived.
